July 20
Another clear blue-sky, warm day in Montana. We had a lazy morning and Gary decided to go fishing this afternoon. As he cruised his favorite spots, there were a lot of Sunday anglers & families playing in the water. His last stop had him hopeful, but as he trudged the path, there was a family fishing. He continued on by making a path to a spot he could see. Disaster struck. His feet went out from under him and he landed flat on the ground. Well, more or less flat. He skinned up his elbow area on his left arm. Really did a number on it. With his thin skin, any impact turns rather ugly. He made his way back to the truck where the first aid kit awaited. He managed, somehow, to get a bandage in place & headed back to the Roadhouse. As he drove up, I could see the white-bandaged elbow sticking out the window and wondered what else might be bandaged. He smiled as he got out of the truck & asked how my afternoon had been. Like I wasn’t gonna notice this somewhat huge bandage on his arm? He cleaned up well & I pushed all sorts of anti-germ stuff on him. The wounds were actually not as bad as that bandage, that kept getting bigger in my mind, appeared. Now he has two smaller bandages on his arm & elbow. And, he creatively cut the toe out of one of his old socks and will slither it up his arm to protect the bandages as he sleeps. Resourceful guy. We’re finding a bowling alley. No more fishing on his own. Yeah, right.

The only thing he has to show for his fishing afternoon is a big bandage. No more cutthroat trout on his line today.

July 21
Sadly, we leave Jim & Mary’s RV Park for JellyStone Park where John & Ellis will join us tomorrow. Yippee!! We are really looking forward to seeing our granddaughter & our son. Jellystone gives a good weekly rate. However, the wifi has a fee and, unlike Jim & Mary’s, there are almost no trees. And this is the hottest day we’ve spent since leaving home. In the afternoon, the temps are varying around town, but the one agreement is: it’s over 100* with heavy humidity. I feel like we are in a sauna or one of the Mexican tropical storms we sometimes have at home in the summer. Our site in the park is just a hop, skip & jump away from John’s Kamper Kabin. It is a rough cabin, but it does have the ‘dorm’ size refrigerator, microwave, window air conditioner & ceiling fan. The cabins are so far from the restrooms, Jellystone has placed an outhouse near them. I will say it is clean smelling, but John & Ellis will pretty much use our restroom. The staff kindly let us have the key early so we could stock the fridge & put our bedding on the beds. By now the heat of the day was beginning to give way to clouds. They blocked the sun from about 4:00pm on. So with that hot nasty sun out of our way…..the temp dropped to 93. Stayed warm into the night. Our air conditioner was running well after dark.
